“It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.” William Shakespeare
While there are some things in life that we have no control over…
- Nature
- Some illnesses
- Other people
- Etc…
We do have control over many other things that can determine our destiny. If we choose to travel North, the odds of ending up in Texas are unlikely unless we have the ambition to cross the North Pole and travel the long way.
And herein lies one of the issues so many people have; they choose the long way, the hard way to a destination they probably had no desire for anyway.
Many of you know my background… Iran politics drove my family into a chaotic state. At a young age, I found out what it was like in a Middle Eastern prison. Something I would wish on no one.
But you know what?
I knew deep inside that I still had control. That I could overcome and master my destiny. There have been roadblocks, hurdles, and barriers, but because of sheer determination and a positive attitude, I kept control. I always told myself that I was the driver and not the passenger, and so, the final destination was completely in my thoughts and actions.
Maybe you haven’t been through such extreme chaotic situations as I have, but I am sure you have faced some difficulties. Every human does!
But no matter the issues… No matter the roadblocks… No matter what others tell you or think, YOU ARE THE MASTER OF YOUR DESTINY!
And today, I am going to share 5 tips to ensure you do master your destiny.
“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
Master Your Destiny Tip #1: Name Your 3 Top Talents
One of the first keys to mastering your destiny is knowing yourself. So take out that notepad and think hard… What are your 3 top talents?
Write them down and ponder on them. These talents are what will ultimately lead to your success. I suggest you build on those talents. Strengthen them even more.
- Take courses
- Read books
- Get a mentor
- Etc…
By building on your top talents, you will use them to help others and the same will happen in return.
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” Steve Jobs
Master Your Destiny Tip #2: Make Yourself #1
So many people go through life trying to please others or take care of other people. And in doing so, they neglect their own self.
And if you really consider it, how can you take care of someone else if you are not taking care of yourself?
How can you please another person if you are not pleasing yourself?
You need to realize that you come first. By taking care of your own needs, you will be in a much better position to help others with their needs.
And by all means, quit worrying about what others think, follow the path you know deep inside is the right one.
“Destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.” William Jennings Bryan
Master Your Destiny Tip #3: Know What You Can Control, And What You Can’t
It sometimes amazes me how much time people put into trying to control something they have no control over, and so little time on issues they do have control over.
I mentioned at the start of this article some basic things we cannot control.
I have a great example for this situation… A farmer is quite concerned because he needs to plant seeds but it has been raining non-stop. The mud would make it difficult to plant.
Wrong pattern – The farmer gets stressed and takes the stress out on his family. He yells at Mother Nature.
Right pattern – The farmer realizes that he must have a backup plan. He buys or borrows heavy chains for his tractor wheels that will help him plant even in the rain and mud. He smiles knowing the rain will help the corn grow fast and strong.
“You control your future, your destiny. What you think about comes about. By recording your dreams and goals on paper, you set in motion the process of becoming the person you most want to be. Put your future in good hands – your own.” Mark Victor Hansen
Master Your Destiny Tip #4: Know That Nothing Is Predetermined
I may start a debate with this but it is the truth… Things do not just happen! People often say “Oh, it was meant to be since it happened that way.”
I disagree!
We force many things to happen by our actions, words and just our demeanor.
“Oh, I was robbed while walking to my car, but it would have happened to anyone,” but that person doesn’t see the fact that she was wearing many jewels, carrying her purse as if she had riches in it and also flashing her wallet with money and credit cards in the store. Not to mention that she parked in an obscure spot.
I don’t like to say it, but she asked to be robbed, and it would not have happened to just anyone.
On the flip side, the man was able to purchase a new house, car and take his family on a Caribbean vacation. The neighbor said in gossip, “Oh, he must have got an inheritance when a family member died; it could have happened to anyone.” But what the neighbor didn’t know is the man had worked his normal job and started a home based network marketing business.
He followed the prescribed path to recruit others into his team and built a huge downline. Consequently, it paid off and he is collecting a great residual income.
Thus, he made it happen by working hard.
Neither of these examples, both negative and positive were predetermined. Each person created his/her destiny.
“What we call our destiny is truly our character and that character can be altered. The knowledge that we are responsible for our actions and attitudes does not need to be discouraging because it also means that we are free to change this destiny. One is not in bondage to the past, which has shaped our feelings, to race, inheritance, background. All this can be altered if we have the courage to examine how it formed us. We can alter the chemistry provided we have the courage to dissect the elements.” Anaïs Nin
Master Your Destiny Tip #5: Stay Focused
And as the last tip, I must tell you this is extremely important. There are so many ways that a person’s focus can be misleading.
My suggestion is that you set goals and objectives to reach those goals. Don’t allow yourself to be pulled away from the goal reaching tasks you have. If your goal is to save enough of your revenues to expand your business operation and someone comes to you with an opportunity to invest in something else, do you really think it would be the right time?
Maybe the opportunity sounds good, but you already set a goal and you would be harming that goal by jumping into the opportunity.
Keep your focus and the success finish line will be in your sights.
“You cannot live to please everyone else. You have to edify, educate and fulfill your own dreams and destiny, and hope that whatever your art is that you’re putting out there, if it’s received, great, I respect you for receiving it. If it’s not received, great, I respect you for not.” Octavia Spencer
Conclusion
Last but not least, let me tell you that failure will happen. Yes, you created it and it became your destiny.
And guess what?
It’s okay!
Because by failing, we learn and grow. And as long as you own it and do not try to blame other people or situations, it shows that you are in charge of your destiny.
