“Technology is nothing. What’s important is that you haveSteve Jobs
a faithin people, that they’re basically good and smart, and if you give them tools, they’ll do wonderful things with them.”
The exponential growth of technology we’ve experienced in recent years is unlike anything we’ve seen before. Our world is being inundated with an unprecedented amount of change and automation beyond our wildest imagination, and with these changes come new opportunities for advancement.
It’s important to be wise and embrace the everchanging, almost volatile nature of change itself, lest we become lost in its relentless motion. Change is an essential driving force of the world. Through change, we can learn how to grow and become the best versions of ourselves.
As businesspeople, change offers us the unique opportunity to perfect our craft through trial and error, a sort of natural evolution. When we try something and fail, we try it again a slightly different way and note the results. It is through this method that some of the world’s most important breakthroughs have been discovered, and it can certainly aid all of us in everything that we do.
The rise of the internet opened many doors for the network marketing field, especially. Our industry relies heavily on the collaborative efforts of our partners and peers, and the shrinking of our world in the digital age has facilitated many positive changes.
Today, we will discuss just a few of the major ways technology has changed the way we market.
#1: No Inventory
We’ve discussed this perk in a few of my previous articles, but it bears repeating as it is one of the most significant changes to the MLM field. In years past, network marketing companies relied on their distributors to have copious amounts of space to store product. Now that the majority of commerce is conducted in online marketplaces, no longer do distributors need to waste personal space to store product.
This change allows almost anyone to become a master marketer as the added flexibility and freed-up space can be used to better one’s business.
#2: Flexible Work Schedule
When it comes to working, having a flexible schedule is very important to many people—even to those who are stuck working a traditional 9-to-5. The internet and technology have allowed us to connect with people in ways we never dreamed possible. Gone are the days of going door-to-door or trying to orchestrate “parties” at a time convenient for all invited. Instead, the world is your audience and the clock is no longer relevant. In the words of Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffet: “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere!”
The freedom that comes from working with a global audience grants us the ability to work whenever and wherever we’d like. No longer are we bound by our local time and local audience. The clock has been made irrelevant and the world has become our own back yard. We are able to connect with more people than ever before and, consequently, get our businesses to reach new heights.
#3: Hone Your Skills
Going hand-in-hand with the global marketplace is the ability to collaborate with other marketers with a few simple clicks of a mouse. When we are able to work with our colleagues, we are able to learn from one another and grow from each other’s mistakes. This enables us to perfect our skills with relatively zero effort. By simply learning from one another, we grow a global support network to aid us throughout our ventures.
In times past, MLM programs required sellers to attend meetings at their own expense or even dumped a load of product onto wannabe marketers and left them to their own devices. In our digital age, the tools to become masters of our trade are always at our fingertips. Prospective marketers can take full advantage of online webinars, live-streams, and workshops to gain an upper hand in their field.
#4: Extensive Market Access
The world truly becomes a much bigger place when we make full use of technology and all that it has to offer. Entering the global marketplace and making the most of the available tools is one of the best things to do when striving for success. In fact, the direct selling industry has grown by about 30% over the past five years due to our increased interconnectedness.
In our digital age, the tools available to us as marketers are incredibly valuable. We have to be willing to flow with the changes in our world to make the very most of our work; otherwise, we risk failure.
#5: Shopping in Augmented Reality
Augmented reality is a type of interactive environment that takes the capabilities of computer to enhance the user’s real-world experience. This is, essentially, virtual reality—an experience that emulates real life for an experience true to life.
We’ve all seen commercials and heard about virtual reality simulations for gaming, science, and medicine; this technology is (thankfully) becoming more and more commonplace and consumer-friendly. Part of growing with technology is embracing those new innovations and applying them to our work as best we can. How exactly can we use augmented reality to benefit our businesses? The answer is quite simple.
As we’ve previously discussed, the world opens up when we take our business online into the global market. Augmented reality is one of many tools we can utilize to better interact with the public, and it is very important to interact with our audience. In the case of a vendor selling, let’s say, cosmetics, augmented reality would allow the customer to virtually “try on” a shade of foundation, for example. It’s a great way to immerse one’s audience in a product, thus allowing them to gain a sense of necessity rather than simply a gimmicky product.
#6: Voice Recognition
What was once a fantasy of the future has now become a daily part of our lives. Voice-activated technology is taking the world by storm—from smartphones to cars to entire houses. The advances of voice technology has truly made our entire world “smart.”
When it comes to MLM, voice technology makes it easier than ever to control our devices and allows the customer to take full advantage of these innovations as well. Now that we understand the importance of taking our business online, we can learn how to interact with our customers in the most convenient and effective way possible, and part of that process is to optimize our websites to allow voice technology and whatever new advancements are made in the near future.
#7: Blockchain Technology
Cryptocurrencies are, perhaps, one of the most revolutionary concepts in our modern, digital age. Blockchain technology has the potential to build and modernize one’s business in a completely new way. Some of the main benefits of utilizing this new technology are its ability to be tamper-proof and completely transparent.
One of the most noteworthy benefits of utilizing cryptocurrencies is their stability and security. Essentially, they are hackproof, meaning that its automated system prevents the need for humans to get involved with the process, thus completely eliminating the risk of shady business, etc.
The transparency of blockchain is also another perk, as the transactions are completely traceable, documented, and recorded in ledgers that cannot be altered, are entirely unique, and auditable. By removing the human element, the technology becomes seamless and nearly perfect.
By removing the need for mediators, such as: banks, currency exchanges, etc., the modern businessperson is capable of streamlining their business procedures and better able to direct their focus and funds on improving their business.
It seems that there is often a reluctance to take to newer technologies for whatever reason—be it fear of change, fear of failure, or perhaps just plain, old ignorance. Regardless of the reason, it’s important for us as businessowners to grow with an everchanging market and society. Not only does it allow us to learn and grow as entrepreneurs, but it allows a technologically-advanced public to interact with us on the same level. It’s a win-win-win situation.
