Happy Anniversary Apple!

Friday, June 29th, 2012

37 years ago to this very day, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak invented Apple, Inc. Not only was Apple invented but also the PC as Wozniak pieced together what is now known as the prototype for Apple I.

The company wasn’t officially formed until April of 1976, but the ideas and inventions were already very much in progress.

On a side note, today is also the iPhone’s 5th birthday! What a great day in history….

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Have you ever driven all the way to work, started your day and then realized when you go to grab your phone, that its not there? I’ve done that a couple of times, and I must admit it definitely feels weird to be phoneless!

Well, if your one of those people who feels anxiety and disconnected when leaving your phone at home its possible you could be nomophobic! A recent study was done amongst 1,000 people and 66% of them had the fear of losing or leaving their phone!

Its not surprising this has become an actual phobia, as I know many people who depend on their phone for many things! I know I rely on my phone for emails, texts, calls, social media, music, directions and many more! It is hard to imagine not feeling a fear of losing all of those things…

How can he be a Dr. without a Ph. D ?

iPhone’s have become the most popular cell phone technology in the world, it seems like everywhere I look someone is using one. I personally love these phones, they are capable of so many different things its become a necessary and efficient tool. Because they are so versatile, the cost of these phones are quite steep. I am sure those of you who own one know just how frustrating it is if you happen to drop it and the screen shatters. You then have to take your broken phone to the Apple store and depending on the situation, it could set you back a couple hundred bucks.

Well, that’s exactly what happened to Brendan McElroy. He had dropped his iPhone and cracked the screen, after finding out the high cost to fix the phone through Apple he sought out an alternative method. He learned the screen was made from glass and it was actually an easy fix, so he attempted to repair his iPhone himself. After successfully fixing his phone, he realized he did this for a fraction of the cost compared to Apple.

This inspired Brendan to promote his ability and pretty soon he was getting customers. Fast forward to today and he is now known as Dr. Brendan with 3 different locations and is on the rise to achieving 300% growth! Now Dr. Brendan and his associates repair more than iPhones, he offers multiple services of repair and technology solutions. It must be an amazing feeling to see your idea turn into reality and become something bigger than you had ever expected. Brendan took a new approach to a very popular item, and offered services no one else at the time offered, other than the manufacturer. I love hearing about stories such as these, it is a great inspiration for all of us who are trying to make their idea’s become a reality. The next time you come across a good idea, don’t wait around, take the idea and turn it into your reality.

What will the future of communication have in store?

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

The world has changed in many different ways over the years, both for the positive and negative. One change that stands out to me in a negative way is the lack of communication skills with the younger generation. Although I am a fan of texting due to its convenience, I most certainly still continue to express myself through personal interaction. For kids in our new generation, that is not the case.

Did you know that about 2.5 billion text messages are sent out each day, and that’s only for the US! I am concerned with how the social

skills of our younger generation will be affected by not only communicating through texting but also the online world. Kids are not learning how to talk with people directly as texting and messaging allows you to avoid face-to-face interaction. Almost every time I go out somewhere a teenager might be working, the manners and social capabilities are absent. It makes me wonder if the parents are not paying attention to their children’s social behaviors.

I remember when I was young, my mother would always teach me how to be polite, interact and show courtesy, which falls under the umbrella of social skills. I still to this day have those same manners stuck in my head and have been using them for years. It is so important to drill this into your children at an early age, and now with texting, and social networking making its way to younger children each and every year its becoming imperative. The future for this generation will be completely different in the way we interact and communicate. It makes me sad to see the affects something as simple as texting has taken on vitally important skills.
