37 years ago to this very day, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak invented Apple, Inc. Not only was Apple invented but also the PC as Wozniak pieced together what is now known as the prototype for Apple I.
The company wasn’t officially formed until April of 1976, but the ideas and inventions were already very much in progress.
On a side note, today is also the iPhone’s 5th birthday! What a great day in history….

Once again we are seeing the appearance of the iPad in another industry. Although many airplanes have already integrated the use of tablets for their guest’s entertainment, United Airlines has decided the use of this great technology is not just for fun!
From now on, all United Aircraft carriers will replace it’s pilot’s flight decks with iPads. Normally pilots operating manuals, log books and charts weigh an amazing 38 pounds! With roughly about 11,000 pilots employed by United, that’s 418,000 pounds of paper! With the replacement of these decks, iPad accomplishes many important environmental issues! There will now be less paper use, printing and also with the weight significantly lower the fuel consumption will decrease!
Every industry is coming to realize the value of iPads and all tablets in general. Their ability to enhance businesses, and not just one type of industry but every type from schools, to restaurants and now pilot’s quarters, is incredible. The environmental aspect of integrating iPads into your business instead of having to print large manuals, texts and even books will really help to make a difference! Each day I use my iPad, I am even more impressed with its abilities. Kudos to apple again for creating such a magnificent new technology!

I knew right away when I heard about this, I needed to write about it! Not only because I have said in some of my previous blogs that I would be following the tablet to see where it shows up next, but also because as many of you know, I’m a frequent flyer!
Now to explain a little about what I heard, apparently American Airlines has added the amenity of Samsung’s Galaxy tablet into their first class section. They’ve specified at least 6,000 tablets will be making their way onto cross country flights, as well as transcontinental flights. Their approach with offering this device will be a source of in-flight entertainment offering movies and TV shows, as well as access to Wi-Fi Internet.
This isn’t the only airline that has implemented similar services, if we step outside the US, Australian Airline JetStar Airways has just added the option to rent an iPad in their flights going from Australia to Asia. It’s exciting to see any of the tablet devices being used in so many different ways. I am happy to hear they are bringing the option into the US, however I think JetStar has it right by allowing every customer to have the option of renting. I think we will be seeing many more airlines transition into using this as an entertainment platform, and maybe one day it will even serve as an ordering device! As I have said before, I will continue to keep you posted on where I see the tablet next!

Just the other day I decided to make an appointment at a nearby Medi spa to check out some of their services. Once I had arrived, I was greeted and welcomed in, along with being offered a latte while I waited in the lobby. Even though I was impressed with their courteous service, this is typically already expected from a high-end full service Medi spa.
What I wasn’t expecting however was the iPad the receptionist had brought over for me to fill out my medical history. I had never seen this before, and being a loyal iPad owner I was excited for the first time in my life to fill out a form! After filling out all of my information, I handed the iPad back to the receptionist and she stored my profile immediately in their secure virtual storage. This is such a simple concept, yet so brilliant. Reducing the need for paper by electronically capturing every client’s information is the new wave of the future.
We are already seeing the iPad brought into restaurants, and now its being utilized in other service industries as well. This is definitely not the iPad’s last stop! It will be fun to see which industries start using this idea to supplement their business as well. I’m guessing a company like Starbucks could benefit from this idea. It would speed up the process of ordering and getting your drink would be faster than ever before. I can’t wait to find this being used more frequently; I’ll keep you posted on the next business that inherits the iPad!

The day has come, finally after 20 years, Apple surpassed Microsoft in their quarterly profits. The sales of the iPad put Apple over the edge this quarter. I know I bought my iPad 2 the day it was released! Laptops are still very much in demand, but the iPad concept is the wave of the future. Just from this quarterly report, we can already see things shifting from laptops to iPads. In just over one year after the 1st iPad was released, Apple sold over 19 million! Just about a decade ago Apple was the underdog in the high tech world. Who could have imagined a company that almost went out of business, is now passing the leader in the technology world. This just tells you that if you stick to your long-term vision and do a little everyday to advance your business, you can excel extremely well, and perhaps even become the leader of the leaders in your industry. Kudos to Apple for setting the example of “ If you believe it, you can achieve it.” Can’t wait to see what apple has up their sleeves next!
