My Top Three Work Out Tips

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

I recently tore the ACL in my knee, and now I am faced with the decision to get surgery. You wont believe this but it happened! I was at my very first soccer game in San Diego with teenage kids! How embarrassing, I guess I’m just getting to old to play a friendly soccer game! After two days of dealing with my swollen knee and hours of MRI and X-Rays, the doctor’s recommendation was surgery, which would leave me out of commission for up to 18 months.

Since I Hate surgery, I decided to work an alternative way and strengthen the muscles around my knees to compensate for the injured ligament. Over the last few months I have been working with a personal trainer 3 times a week. I’ve learned a few tips that I’d like to share with you…

1. Meal Tips

  • Eat more vegetables
  • Eat less carbs
  • Drink more water

2. Work Out Tips

  • Plan to do cardio 45 minutes, 3 times a week
  • Combine upper and lower body work outs with your cardio
  • Include some core strengthening workouts

3. Pre and Post Work Out Tips

  • Make sure you have protein intake combined with complex carbs before your work out. i.e. almond butter on a piece of whole  grain toast
  • Within 30 minutes after your workout eat some type of protein
  • Try to walk off your dinner for at least 20 minutes every night

Ever since I started my training sessions I have noticed a drastic change in my mobility in my day-to-day activities. Follow these simple tips and make it a routine! I promise you will notice dramatic improvements in not only your strength but also your wellbeing.
