I recently came across the following quote by F Scott Fitzgerald: “Genius is the ability to put into effect what is in your mind”
These are such poignant words when we look around and see so many people who “Wonder” and never put their thoughts into action. At some time in our lives, each of us will ask of ourselves the most important of all questions.
The question simply is: Am I living a great life? Immediately you will know the answer. It will either be a resounding passionate, “YESSSSS!” or a despairing excuse, “How did I permit myself to miss so much”
The good news is that there is no purpose in dwelling on the past. Rather ask yourself the question “What can I do now that will guide me to “YESSSS!” and reward me with a rich and fulfilling life.
Over the years I have learned to become fully present with everything I touch. Being fully present means 100% of your mind, body and spirit are truly there with the people who are with you. You’re focused on them in that moment.
The best part of being in the present is you can’t fake it. How long does it take you to know when someone is not fully present? You can even tell over the phone. Being present is not a technique. It is a conscious choice we can make by shifting our mindset.
Inch by inch, for the next 30 days pick out one person in your life with whom you commit to be more present. That doesn’t mean you have to spend more time with them. Simply when you are together turn off your computer; shut off the television and look at the person with a fresh eyes and an open heart. Ask more questions, then stop and listen.
I have found that as you experience deeper connections, you will become thirsty for more. When you focus in the present this mindset will become a natural habit. The essence of your new character!
